Common QuestionsCommon Questions

We hope these questions and answers are helpful, however if you have any other queries please do not  hestitate to contact us.
Do you provide the children’s meals?
No we don't. If your child stays for lunch you will need to provide a packed lunch. However please do not include meat on the bone i.e.chicken drumsticks, nuts, or yoghurts in tubes i.e.Frubes. Make sure to include an ice pack please.

Ideas for a packed lunch.....

Salad (Pasta; couscous;)

Sandwiches

Vegetables (carrots; cucumber; tomatoes;)

Fruit

Desserts (pots of yoghurt; jelly; custard; rice.)

We have a morning and afternoon snack when we provide a variety of food i.e. fruit, toast, breadsticks, cheese etc. We also provide either milk or water.  Water is always available from the water cooler which children can access.

How can I prepare my child for starting nursery?
All children are unique and the amount of time that a child takes to settle into our Nursery can vary enormously. Therefore, children will be given time to settle in at their own pace, while we concentrate on making them feel welcome, safe and confident in a new environment.

We encourage parents to help during this time by talking about their nursery before they start. Explain what will happen; that you will be taking them to nursery and perhaps going shopping, and that you will be coming back to collect them.

Children pick up on moods and if you are feelng anxious, then your child may well feel anxious too. You may feel upset when you leave if this is the first time you have left your child in the care of someone else. Try not to prolong the 'goodbye'. We will telephone you during the session to reassure you.

If you decide that you need to stay for a while, we will support your decision.  You know your child better than anyone and you may feel that to stay would be the best approach to settling your child. Please discuss your intentions with your child's key person or the manager.

How do I know what my child has done throughout the day?
Each week on the notice board, you will find the theme for the week and some of the activities taking place.  We have an 'interest table' in the entrance hall that you and your child may add to. This could be in the form of objects, books or pictures that all children may handle and discuss with you and their key person.

When does the nursery close?
The Nursery is closed weekends, Bank Holidays and school holidays.

In exceptional circumstances it may not be possible to open or we may have to close early.  This could be due to adverse weather conditions when staff themselves are unable to get to the nursery.  It is paramount that adult to child ratio is maintained at all times.  If we are unable to open we will make every effort to contact parents by telephone, and by leaving a message on the answer phone at the nursery.

Please also read our 'Emergency Closure' Policy in the Information for Parents section.

Will my child have a keyworker?
Each child has an allocated key person who is responsible for maintaining the records for their children. The records are available for parents at any time and we welcome input and information from parents about their own child's milestones.

The key person is also the first point of contact for parents each day and updates to individual needs can be made on a daily basis.

In addition, appointments will be made for parents to speak to their child's key person each term to discuss their child's progress and development.
